Sacré-Cœur Australian Shepherds was founded by Don and Kurt, partners in life and in passion. Don is a dedicated dentist and Kurt runs a busy coffee shop, but their true passion together is the Australian Shepherd. It all started with their pet Cookie, a sweet red merle whose loyalty, intuition and boundless love opened their eyes to the extraordinary nature of this breed. She was the spark that lit the fire of Don and Kurt’s admiration for the Australian Shepherd. Don and Kurt found that Australian Shepherds are more than a herding dog—they are loyal companions and sweet, intuitive souls who become a part of your heart from the very first look. The name Sacré-Cœur is no accident. Don and Kurt are avid travelers with a deep appreciation for cultures and history. After many conversations about what name could possibly capture their vision and who the are, they remembered the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur in Paris. They were both captivated by its grandeur, timeless beauty, and deep spiritual meaning. “Sacré-Cœur” means “Sacred Heart”—a perfect reflection of the Australian Shepherd’s essence. Loyal, intuitive, attentive, and endlessly affectionate—this breed is the embodiment of sacred-hearted devotion. The name is a tribute not only to a beautiful place, but also to the beautiful souls these dogs bring into our lives. We are incredibly proud to be starting our kennel with three exceptional blue merle foundation bitches from Reinemn Kennels, bred by the esteemed Monique Hetterscheidt. Monique’s vision and dedication to the breed paved the way for us to pursue our own style and interpretation of this magnificent breed. Her mentorship and dogs have given us the strongest possible start, and for that, we will always be grateful. At Sacré-Cœur, our goal is to preserve and celebrate everything that makes the Aussie special—its boundless intelligence, its adaptability in everything from agility to herding, its deep loyalty, and of course, its striking good looks and unique markings.
